Rita Winchester, MSW Candidate
Hello! I am a graduate student in the Master of Social Work (MSW) Program at Loyola University, Chicago Campus. I earned my BS in Psychology from John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio and will graduate with my MSW in May 2026. I have worked in social service for over two decades in Ohio, Texas, and Minnesota, as a Mental Health Case Manager for adults with Serious Persistent Mental Illness, as an Assistant Director of an adult day care center for older adults with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s Disease, and as a Care Coordinator for adults on the Minnesota Special Needs Basic Care Medical Assistance Disability Program. After receiving diagnoses of Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder a few years ago, I became aware of the shortage of providers who specialize with autistic adults and decided to return to school for my master’s degree to become a neurodivergent-affirming therapist, myself. I also have a strong connection to working with 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals and align with the Health at Every Size
framework. Creating a strong, collaborative therapeutic relationship built on trust and safety is the foundation for a positive healing journey. I use a strengths-based and person-centered approach to therapy with the belief that each
person is the expert in their own experiences and that we all can use a little help sometimes with finding the right tools to use when facing difficult life challenges.

Hi! I am a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), specializing in Mental Health, with extensive training in trauma-unformed care. I use a relational attachment style, person-centered, trauma-informed treatment approach, where you are the expert on your own body-mind. As a guide, I am present to bear witness to your process, to assist you with connecting to your spiritual life, to aid you in exploring trauma and healing with body-mind integration, and to co-create a safe space in which to contain learning and growth on your personal life journey.
Having raised 6 children, and worked in the field of medical social work, chemical dependency and HIV/AIDS case management, I have a good range of insight into life's challenges. I also continue my own enrichment through quality time with loved ones, art, ongoing studies of religion/spirituality, traditional psychology, ongoing clinical trainings, and mindfulness meditation practice. Included in my learning is by immersion into cultural travel experiences such as: Fort Berthold Indian Reservation life, Peru, China/Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Ireland, Scotland, Belgium, 11 Caribbean islands, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Indonesia, and India, where I was privileged to have an audience with His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, while studying Tibetan medicine.
